Revit Videos / FAQ

Placing Components  – How do I download and place a component (Revit calls these a Family) https://youtu.be/Xe0iJ7Kjb2s

Visibility Graphics – Removing concrete hatch from views. We don’t want to see this hatch on plans, elevations, or sections https://youtu.be/VDcy2jz-er8

Stairs – Editing stair railing. https://youtu.be/sCcwT0XDJpA

Rendering – How to render in cloud? https://youtu.be/tYX8J-dNgx8

Sheets / Printing – How do I set up the PDF? Title block – the title block needs to fill the sheet, and if you have odd margins, it is usually because it is not on an 11×17 sheet with a title block to be 11×17. Alternatively, another common issue is Print Zoom to 100% is not selected so the view is cropped to fit in the printing margins. https://youtu.be/4pjufFF_Ek4

Revit Tutorial – Print Sheets to PDF

Poche of walls – we want to shade in walls on plans, sections, 3d sections, details, and wall sections. This allows the floor plan to pop and draw attention to the wall elements. https://youtu.be/j5-pDYtsMzE

Trees covering elevations and 3d views – hide elevations so trees don’t cover the building. https://youtu.be/j5-pDYtsMzE

Hatches – As much as the concrete hatch doesn’t look good, other hatches do. I do, however recommend adjusting wall and floor hatches to be 220 to 240 grey. you can adjust all floor hatches in visibility graphics by doing a pattern override. and for elevations, you can do the same for roofs and walls by doing a pattern override.

Level Lines – Since we are focusing on this project being a design phase project we want to hide level lines in sections and elevations to make the drawing look a bit less cluttered. Other elements can be used for scales such as furniture and other entourage items.

Grade line – For the grade line in sections and elevations I recommend a thick dark line.  Usually, a line weight of 5 will work which can be adjusted in the visibility graphics.

Topo – For topo, you have some options here but I recommend not keeping the standard earth hatch Revit has. I have seen solid white, solid grey, solid black be good alternatives. I have also seen diagonal lines that can look good in certain cases. For this, we want to override the cut pattern. https://youtu.be/thTy0G4wUlU

Overlapping items – make sure views don’t extend beyond the sheet and annotations or views don’t overlap each other.

Underlay turned on – should be turned off when printing to pdf. If you want to show something above or below we want to use annotations to do that.
