ABOUT CORBIN

15+ Years in Architecture. Now Teaching the Stuff School Skipped.

Corbin Patten is a building designer, intern architect, and the principal of Corbin Patten Designs — a Muskoka-based practice specializing in high-performance cottages, homes, and boathouses. He started teaching because he kept watching talented colleagues struggle with the exact tools they use every day. Today he teaches Revit and BIM at George Brown College and Lawrence Technological University, and brings the same practical, no-fluff approach to YouTube.

Corbin has spent 15+ years working in the architecture and design industry — running a design firm, teaching at two universities, and working toward full licensure as an architect. He’s not a hobbyist who picked up software on the side. He’s a practitioner who uses the same tools he teaches, on real projects, every week.

He founded Corbin Patten Designs in 2014 — a luxury residential practice based in Muskoka, Ontario, designing cottages, boathouses, and homes featured in publications like Style at Home. The firm is still active. Teaching came later, when George Brown College brought him in to run their Architectural Technology courses, and Lawrence Technological University brought him in to teach BIM.

The YouTube channel started as a side project — a way to share what he was already explaining in class. In 2018, Jim Stevens at LTU suggested he formalize it. That turned into Corbin Teaches: a channel built around one idea — MLIB, Model Like It’s Built. Don’t just click through the menus. Build the way a contractor would build it. Think about how the wall actually comes together before you draw it.

That’s the approach behind every tutorial, every template, and every resource on this site. Not “here’s how the software works.” But “here’s how you’d use it on a real project.”

If you’re looking for a starting point, the free Revit Starter Pack covers everything you need for your first real project setup.
